W88 # 2.12 This is a very nice display of 5 species of turtles. They are displayed nicely in glass domes with black wooden bases and then showcased on a vintage wooden pedestal. These are not attached to the pedestal but could easily be glued down. All species are not protected and are from a turtle farm. They are the little guys that did not make it.

The dimensions of this piece are approx. 11 x 7 1/2 x 7 overall. The Taller turtle domes are approximately 3 1/2 x 2" and the shorter domes are approximately 2 1/2 x 2". This would be a great addition to any collection or a wonderful teaching tool as well.

Species and fun facts are as follows. Red eared slider-Trachemys scripta elegans. The pond slider is a species of common, medium-sized, semi-aquatic turtle. There are three subspecies, the most recognizable of which is the red-eared slider, which is popular in the pet trade and has been introduced to other parts of the world by people releasing it to the wild. Spiny soft shell- apalone spinifera.

The spiny soft shell turtle is a species of soft shell turtle, one of the largest freshwater turtle species in North America. Both the common name, spiny soft shell, and the specific name, spinifera, refer to the spiny, cone-like projections on the leading edge of the carapace, which are not scutes.

The Mississippi map turtle is a subspecies of land and water turtle belonging to the family Emydidae. Kohni is endemic to the central United States. Map turtles get their common name from the lines and markings on the carapace which resemble the contour lines of a map. The painted turtle is the most widespread native turtle of North America. It lives in slow-moving fresh waters, from southern Canada to northern Mexico, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

The turtle is the only species of the genus Chrysemys, which is part of the pond turtle family Emydidae. The western painted turtle is rather adaptable and is known to occur in prairie pothole wetlands as well as river floodplains and oxbows.

Please check out my other displays, they make wonderful Christmas, Birthday, Anniversary and some even Man Cave displays! Once it leaves the US I will no longer be responsible for any items.

These displays are much more beautiful than they show in the pictures. Please check my feedback for comments. All displays are hand made and ONE OF A KIND and Artist signed.
